It was a great start for the Scorpio's
project in Drežnica. The project aimts at rebolting existing routes as
well as opening new routes and it was realised with the support of OXFAM
Italy. Scorpio managed to gather 15 climbers both from Scorpio and from
the Mostar Club Neretva.
The focus was on the Kuk Ciklama
pillar, where all the belays were replaced and some routes were
completely rebolted. Besides this, it was the opportunity to open a new
climbing route, named OXFAM ITALY, which was climbed for the first time
by Armin Gazić and Denis Serdarević. The routes is rated at 6c+/7a and
is one of the most difficult in Drežnica.

October 2011 - Canyoning to Mostarska Bijela with guests from
Italy
This was our latest trip to
Bijela with a group of experienced canyoneers from Italy....A
mystical trip through Mostarska Bijela showing the beauty and the
challenges of the canyon to a group of experience canyooners from Italy,
who were visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina's canyons. Thanks to Oxfam
Italia for making this trip possible!

International School of Sarajevo second time in Smetovi
QSISarajevo visited our sports andeducationalenvironmentalcenterfor the second time
this year, which is another confirmation ofthe
uniquefacilitiesand
capabilities, as well as thepossibilities of ourcenterandour instructors. Fortystudentsfrom the ages of12-17 yearsandtheir sixteachersimplementedthethree-dayprogramcombiningtheir curriculumwithadrenalineand educational
activitiesofferedby
SCORPIOcenter.
In addition to thestandardandalwaysattractive "Smetovi
adrenalinetriathlon,"
which involvesclimbing,
zip-line and
adrenalinetree-park , the students
ofthis eliteschool had theopportunity to
participate in small
schoolof survival and
orientation.
Particularlyinterestingwas thefire andpreparation ofdinnerin the woods, nighthiking, andcompetition ina mountainbikerideand run onspeciallyarranged track"Baby
smetovskiđir".
Lifein the campcenterwasalso a unique experience,
because for most students this was their first camping.

guests
In cooperationwith ourpartnersfromthe Neretva River,

SCORPIO organizeda three-dayadventure programfor the10-member international
groupof guests (Italy, Croatia,
Serbia and Bosnia).
The first daywestartedthe adventurewith offroaddrivingthrough theVisočica
Mountain andhiking tothe largelake with a"stećci" necropolis ofandunique climbing site "Stone
Sleeper", whichisequipped bySCORPIOteam10 years ago.
The second daywe organizedraftingon the Neretva Riverfor allparticipants, includingchildren: 9-year-old
Irijanand 10-yearIsmarand Leonard,
andadventure ended on the
third day with alwaysattractivetrip to theRakitnica canyon,with aclimb to thelookoutover thecanyonand swimmingin the most
attractivepart of the
canyon.

The secret of the Sfynx - first repetition of the route in Prenj
Mountain
The Secret of the Sfynx is a climbing
route on Crnopoljski Osobac, opened for the first time by Paolo
Pezzolato with Sara Gojak and Edin Durmo in the summer 2006. The route
is 120 meters long (difficulty 6b) and it is a rather challenging one.
Edin Durmo and Armin Gazić-Mućak from
Scorpio conducted the first repetition of the route after its opening.
This is a preparation for Armin's upcoming expedition to Tajikistan.

5th July - Official opening of the Scorpio Climbing
and Training Centre in Smetovi
Thanks to the support provided by Firma
(with the backing of USAID and SIDA), Scorpio was able to complete its
educational and sports Centre in Smetovi and it opened it officially on
the 05 July 2011. We were pleased by the attendance of Zenica Mayor, Mr.
Husejin Smajlović, and the municipal authorities, by Firma Chief of
Party, Mr. David King and by numerous friends and guests of Scorpio.
After the official opening, Irijan Durmo and Iris Primorac led a
practical demonstration in climbing, abseiling, zip line and on the tree
adventure park...

June 2011 - Kids from
International School of Sarajevo in our centre Smetovi
As the school year is finishing, there
is more time for leisure and sport activities.... This wednesday it was
our pleasure to host the
QSI
from Vogošća for a very intensive programme which combined both an
educational part with a walk through the Smetovi Jungle and a sports
part with rock climbing on the Adrenaline tower, the Tree Adventure park
and finally with the zipline off the tower.....
A day full of fun and emotions for our
11 (and 12!) years old guests, and their teachers, Edita and Roger, who
organised the whole event.... And at the end, pravi roštilj fo
everybody!
QSI is the first school from Sarajevo to come and visit the Scorpio
Centre in Smetovi... well done, pioniri!
A great ski touring trip: Otiš
peak (2097 mt), starting from Rujište.... a bit hiking and then up
towards the impressive peak of Otiš, a real ski touring marathon... an
impressive programme rewarded by a superb descent through a very narrow
and steep couloir between Otiš and Zelena Glava.
An amazing day... and many
congratulations to Lorenzo, Yumiko and Christine who flew in from the
Netherlands, for the second time in two weeks, to enjoy the beauty of
BIH nature! A real adventure: almost 12 hours hiking and skiing for more
than 21 kilometers and 900 mts vertical gain...
Edin Durmo completed his project, Borašnica,
Prenj Trilogy. On saturday 2nd April, Edin Durmo and a group
of friend reached the Borašnica peak on Prenj, completing this very
special trilogy. A few years ago, Durmo flew from Borašnica peak with
his paraglider and landed near Boračko Jezero. Last summer, he cycled to
the summit of Borašnica and today he
reached the peak by skis...
A very special day and a great ski touring trip, with stunning views of
Prenj, Visočica, Konjic and Boračko Jezero....

March 2011 - Two-day ski tour to Prenj
- Zelena glava
8 persons on a ski tour and 6 persons reached
the top of Zelena Glava, the highest peak on Prenj. It was our pleasure
to have as guest Matias Gomez, the author of BIH's top hiking guide
"Forgotten Beauty" and Christine Zandvliet from the Netherlands. They
both flew in for this special event and joined
...Jim,
Todd and the rest of the group. An excellent trip and many
congratulations to the PSD "Prenj" from Mostar for the renovating the
Bijele Vode mountain hut, very comfortable and cozy.

people joined a ski touring expedition, aiming at Sivadija group on
Prenj on a trip organised by Scorpio. A real multinational team with
participants coming from Spain, Italy, Japan, US, Norway and BIH of
course visited this beautiful part of Prenj. In spite of the fog and
light snow, it was a good trip and excellent preparation for the
upcoming Great Prenj's Adventure...
It was
a special pleasure to meet with Paolo Pezzolato, old friend, and famous
mountaineer and rescue team from Trieste, on his ski touring trip on the
mountains of BIH, who in his recent years cooperated with Scorpio in a
few skiing and climbing expeditions on Prenj.

trip: for Merce and Jun, who
flew in from Belgrade for
the trip, it was the first
ski touring experience,

a good way to get in touch
with BIH mountains.

February 2011 - Memorial
ski touring to the Lupoglav peak
Last
week end, BIH mountaineers organised the memorial ascent to the Lupoglav
peak (mt 2102) on Prenj Mountain. The memorial hike is organised to
commemorate three BIH mountaineers, Ilia Dilber and Milorad Stjepanovic
from Zenic and Zijah Jajatovic from Sarajevo who lost their lives during
the first winter ascent of Lupoglav in February 1970.
Edin
Durmo and Jure Miljak, on this occasion realised the first ascent and
descent on skis from Lupoglav.They skied down the whole west face from
the summit to the graves in Barni Do.This achievement is the first of a
series of events that they have organised in the course of this year to
celebrate their 35 years of active mountaineering activity.

Another ski tour to Visočica Mountain - Ljeljen peak
Sunny and windy ski touring trip on
Ljeljen, Visočica.... not much snow unfortunately but nevertheless some
very beautiful pictures taken during our descent. 7 people made it with
the skis to the top of Visočica mountain and descended from the other
side. Amongst them, Lorenzo Cellino, 14 years old, is probably the
youngest ski alper to reach the Ljeljen peak ever...

Start of skitouring season on Visočica Mountain
An excellent start of the season, out of
the fog into the blue and white of the peaks of Visočica. A 2 and half
hour easy ascent and then down on the powder snow...

From Italy to the mountains of BiH
SCORPIO organized 8 days programme for a
group of tourists from Italy... a summary of the best destinations in
BIH, from Sarajevo to Mostar passing through the Neretva and Prenj and a
combination of different sports and activities from MTB to hiking,
rafting and canyoning in Mostarska Bijela.
Fantastic day in Rakitnica, 14 people
through the canyon, including Katia and Elizabeth of 10 and 11
years....Pictures will tell a lot more than words...

Italian Boy Scouts were our guests
It
was a pleasure for Scorpio to organise a combined programme for 20 Boy
Scouts from Italy who came to visit BIH and wanted to enjoy the nature
and mountains of Herzegovina.
On
this occasion Scorpio facilitated the contacts between the Italian Boy
Scouts and Zenica Boy Scouts and used this opportunity to organise a
joint ascent on Zelena Glava, Prenj mountain and in the Rakitnica river.
Borašnica (1890 mt) is one of the
peaks of Prenj, which overlooks Konjic and the Boračko Jezero. It is
also part of Edin Durmo's project.... to explore Borašnica by
paragliding, mountain bike and skitouring.
A few years ago, it was the turn of
paragliding, today, it was Mountain Bike. 15 kilometers for 1100 mts of
ascent on a very difficult terrain, with
rain and fog...

Edin Durmo, former Boy Scout himself, and
his Team designed a special training programme for the Boy Scouts from
Zenica, Sarajevo and many more places who were camping at Boracko
Jezero... Can there be any better playground than Rakitnica and Boračko
Lake?

Kapa peaks
During the
past two weekends our team has carried out a climb to the top two
significant Prenj peaks - Veliki Osobac (2026 m) and Velika Kapa
(2006 m). These inclines
are very important because an equal member of the team was eight-year
Irijan Durmo.

festival "Mirza Humo - Drežnica 2010"
Traditional,
now 12thMemorial climbing festival was
held in Drežnica, with the participation of a large number of climbers
and guests. We were honored by the
presence of legendary Mostar jumper Emir Balić, in whose honor has been
called the most attractive climbing route in Drežnica - Mostar swallow.

Climbing course in Drežnica for US tourists
BIH is little by little becoming one of the tourism destinations for
outdoors sports and the Extreme Sports Club Scorpio is pleased to
host guests from abroad.

Adrenaline day in Smetovi (paragliding, climbing, mtb)
Summer in Smetovi irresistibly inspires an active holiday in nature, and
our Sport- education center Smetovi offers ideal conditions for
everyone. In one day we had a
variety of guests and it was full of adrenaline.
In cooperation with the association "Steps" club SCORPIO has realized an
interesting project. It was
complex cleaning of weeds and repairing the walls of the fortress
Vranduk near Zenica.
The project "Protect Vranduk old city" is designed on the occasion of
World Day of Environmental Protection, within traditional cultural event
"Vrandučka ašlama", which is the finest and most concrete way of
promoting this valuable monument.

Our team in special task on the Old bridge in Mostar
Following a request from the German
company LGA and the Mostar Agency Stari Grad, in partnership with
UNESCO, the Extreme Sports Club SCORPIO was invited to conduct technical
checks on the Old Bridge in Mostar.
For the Club it was an honor and a special
satisfaction to receive such request. For the occasion, Scorpio gathered
an expert team with its best people, from Zenica, Sarajevo and Pale.

Scorpio with the guests from Slovenia
Last weekend
SCORPIO
realized interesting program in two days and three different
destinations. Even more interesting were our guests.
Marko Štremfelj belongs to the
golden generation of Slovenian and world alpinism. He was participant of
historical Yugoslavian expedition to Mount Everest over the western
shoulder. That big success in 1979. was followed by more top results
during past years, and finalized with this visit to the most beautiful
Bosnian areas and unforgettable time spent with us.

Scorpio attended a Business to Business presentation at the Zemaljski
Museum, organised by the government of Sarajevo Canton,Turkish Airlines
and Sarajevo Navigator. The guests were tour operators from Turkey which
showed considerable interest for BIH and its touristic potential. For
Scorpio, it was the chance to present its Active Holidays and Adrenaline

2010 - Ski tour to Prenj
There
is still enough snow on Prenj mountain to go ski touring. Sivadija was
the destination of this week end as Zelena Glava has been postponed to
next weed. A bit of hike and then finally on the skis towards
Crnopoljski Osobac and the peak of Sivadija, 1970 mt. The descent
allowed Edin, Roger and Massimo to take some very nice pictures, under
the Sfynx of Sivadija.

2010 - Alpine school and climbing competition in Smetovi centre
Last
weekend in
SCORPIO centre Smetovi our
team of instructors performed last part of Alpine school for
participants of
Mountaineering
organization
HPD „Prenj 1933“ from Mostar.
Using exceptional possibilities of climbing polygon in our Centre, we
elaborated sport climbing
topics, and resumed all
treated subjects from previous weekends of Alpine school.
Sport climbing competition,
including fast climbing discipline, was held on Sunday, when
our climbers showed to numerous guest all attractiveness of sport
climbing.
Mountaineering
organization
HPD „Prenj 1933“ from Mostar organized third part of alpine school
in Romanija Mountain. Training was again realized with participation of
instructors from SCORPIO club.

2010 - Ski tour to Prenj
Sivadija or Osobac, two of the main peaks of Prenj, were the target for
today’s skitouring for Roger, Edin and Massimo, who also wanted to check
the situation for the upcoming trips. Unfortunately the weather didn’t
really help… rain and a thick fog made the group only imagine were the
peaks were.
In any case, a bit of good exercise in the nature (always better than
watching TV at home) and the reassurance that there is still a lot of
snow on Prenj for at least another month of skitouring excursions.

Alpine and
climbing school in Drežnica
In exceptional
ambiance of Drežnica climbing centre, SCORPIO team of instructors
realized two-day climbing school for members of mountaineering
organization
HPD „Prenj 1933“ from Mostar. This school gathered a big group of
18 participants from HPD „Prenj 1933“ and Mountain rescue station from
Mostar.
Finish
of this School
will be held on weekend 17/18th April in
Sport-educational centre SCORIO in Smetovi, where we'll also organize
open climbing competition.
It is
another memorable day for ski touring. Lots of news snow on Visocica
mountain created an amazing scenario, but at the same time made the
going more difficult. The sun and the wonderful panorama was there to
encourage Andrea, Timur, Faik, Roger, Edin, Massimo and Lorenzo, at his
first skitouring experience in Bosnia.
Beauty of Blidinje Park of Nature and Vran Mountain has been confirmed
again as singular experience for ski admirers of all ages and profiles.
Sun, new snow, an amazing landscape, it was a perfect day for ski
touring on Vran mountain.
It was
excellent mixed group of skiers: guest Roger Webb from USA and Andrea
Cellino from Italy, professors and Scorpio instructors Jure Miljak,
Zdenko Jonjić, Massimo Moratti, Ivan Mioč, Edin Durmo, and
youngest participant Irijan Durmo, who already became standard Scorpio
team member!
With the most significant ski tour in this
season, our youngest team member Irijan approved his rank of "Sportive
hope of Ze-Do canton". In continuation of Irijan's development as young
sportsman, we organized ski tour over Vlašić plateau. Irijan
accomplished this tour along with leading Scorpio instructors and
teachers of physical education in Catholic School Centre in
Zenica, where Irijan attends second class.
Whence snow was
falling all night, sunny day
came to slopes of Smetovi,
which irresistible attracted us. Ski tour from SCORPIO centre to peak
Brdašce was much more than pleasure...

January 2010 - Ski tour to Visočica Mountain
Fog,
wind and heavy snow weren't sufficient to stop ski-tourers this week end
who finally could enjoy proper winter conditions on Visočica mountain.
It was a proper start of the ski touring season, to test the skis and
ourwill against all elements and start proper training in view of the
nexttrips. Snow conditions are finally in place, now only the sun is
missing.

January 2010 - Family ski touring in Smetovi
Smetovi is always perfect area for the first ski touring
experience, therefore ten years old girls Matea and Andrea Kostić from
Zagreb (Croatia) together with their parents made first steps on special
touring skis. This youthful team was completed with our seven years old
"veteran" Irijan, so this today's ski tour is real achievement and
curiosity.

January 2010 - Who said there is no skiing?
Despite adverse snow conditions in whole BiH, club
SCORPIO found approach to organize real ski mood for children in
Smetovi. With a little efforts we find valleys with enough of snow, and
there are some new ski experiences and rosy faces...
